Are you ready to get in the game and make this summer a slam dunk? We sure are, and we have just the thing to give your brain the workout it needs: Our annual Summer Reading Program!
We’ll be keeping everyone’s brains engaged this summer with the Library’s Read for the Win Summer Reading Program! For kids, teens, and adults, we have cool sign-up giveaways (while supplies last) and fun prizes for our summer readers who complete the program.
There are several Read for the Win-themed Library programs planned throughout the summer months for youth, teens, and adults! Take a look at our summer issue of Browsing or check out our event calendar to see what’s coming up.

Youth (Birth – Fifth Grade)
Yes, even babies can participate in the Summer Reading Program! We have sand pails and shovels for our birth – pre-K sign ups, and the first 200 Kindergarten – fifth graders to register will receive an awesome beach towel (while supplies last). Children who complete the program by Sunday, August 7 will receive a paperback book of their choice and be eligible for a variety of exciting raffle prizes. Special thanks to the Friends of the Deerfield Public Library for sponsoring the beach towels and paperback books!
Remember, the DPL Cup (the Library version of the Stanley Cup) is once again up for grabs. The Deerfield Public School with the highest percentage of students who complete the Summer Reading Program will win the Cup, proudly displaying it throughout the next school year. Be sure to sign up and complete your Summer Reading to help your school bring home the Cup!
Teens (Grades 6-12)
Drop by the Library during our kick-off event on Saturday, June 11 to pick up your Summer Reading Program booklet, and receive a water bottle (while supplies last) to help you stay hydrated while you’re reading for the win!
Teen Summer Reading Program booklets will be available in the Teen Space throughout the summer. For each activity you complete in the booklet you’ll be entered into weekly raffles for tons of awesome prizes, including food coupons, iTunes and Visa gift cards, and a grand prize basket.
Who says Summer Reading is just for kids? We know adults like reading and prizes, too! When you sign up for our Adult Summer Reading Program, you’ll receive a pedometer (while supplies last) so you can keep track of all those summer steps when you’re not reading for the win!
If you can’t make it to our kick-off event on June 11, you can stop by the Adult Services or Media desks at any time to register and pick up your activity log. Participants who complete the Adult Summer Reading Program can enter to win one of four fabulous prizes – a Fitbit, a Ravinia basket, a BBQ basket, or a s’mores basket.
Gear up. Put your game face on. On your mark. Get set. READ!
