Job Title: Support Services Clerk
Position Type: Part-time, 15 hours/week
Starting pay: $12.52/hour

The Support Services department works behind the scenes primarily dealing with material in our collection.

Are you ready to:

  • Accurately and neatly process new library material?
  • Correct serial and item records?
  • Clean, maintain, and repair library material?
  • De-process withdrawn material?
  • Sort and route mail?
  • Check-in or route materials received from other libraries?

Do you meet these requirements?

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college or Library Technical Assistant (LTA) certificate preferred.
  • Legible printing; manual dexterity; accurate and rapid keyboarding.
  • Competent user of computers and related technologies.

Can you work this schedule?

  • After training, your shifts will be Wednesday 12:00-4:00 p.m., Thursday 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and Friday 12:00-4:00 p.m. Other shifts may occasionally be required.

Job title: Patron Services Assistant
Position type: Part-time, 12-15 hours/week
Starting pay: $15.54/hour

Job description:  

You make the patron’s experience at the Library by enthusiastically greeting people and welcoming them into our Library.

  • You enjoy people and provide warm and friendly service both in person and on the phone.
  • You provide an outstanding library experience to everyone by assisting them with self-checkout, library card registration or help them with their account.
  • You are more than comfortable with computers and technology; you can help our Library users with their basic computer needs as well as anticipate the use of programs or apps that may be better suited for them, starting with: email, answering Microsoft product questions, and navigating the Internet as well as helping with printing, faxing, scanning, and copying.
  • You are extremely responsible and reliable; you coordinate the opening and closing of the Library. When we open our doors, you are ready and the Library is neat, organized, and ready for the day.
  • You recommend the promotions, programs, and services available at the Library.
  • You are scrupulously careful handling cash transactions for our patrons.
  • You do the right thing; other tasks may be required to ensure excellent service to our community.

Position Requirements

  • High school degree, some college preferred
  • Experience in a library circulation department a plus.
  • Computer literacy with current MS Office and Google apps proficiency. Mac experience a plus.
  • Accurate cash handling skills
  • Your schedule will include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.

Your job will involve your being “on the move” in our Library: You will stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push/pull up to 50 pounds, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Patron Services Manager

Job title: Part-Time Adult Services Associate
Hours: 15 hours/week, consisting of days, evenings, and weekends
Wage: $18.21/hour

The Deerfield Public Library is currently seeking an enthusiastic and customer service oriented individual to join the Adult Services team. Candidates must be flexible, creative, goal-oriented, and dedicated to providing the best service to Deerfield Patrons.

Duties may include:

  • Provide reference, readers/viewers/listeners advisory, and computer assistance.
  • Assist with budgeting and managing short term projects, programs, or mini-collections.
  • Assist in developing special collection areas within established guidelines and under the supervision of a librarian.
  • Assist collections librarian with maintenance of collection.
  • Assist with outreach and represent the Library at other organizations when needed.
  • Attend continuing education programs.
  • Initiate, develop, coordinate, promote, and regularly present programs both in house and off-site.
  • Other duties as assigned.
