I have always loved to read. When I was little, if I didn’t have a book with me, I would read the back of the cereal box at the breakfast table or even the phone book! I loved going to the school library every week and to public libraries as well. I regularly used three different libraries here on the North Shore and two libraries near where we vacationed in Michigan. My favorite books back then were nonfiction, usually about horses, and books like All of a Kind Family or The Borrowers.
I haven’t changed that much: I still love to read and read whenever and wherever I can. I usually have a stack next to my bed, a bigger stack in our family room, and even a book in the car…for reading at stoplights, of course. Today, I love to read nonfiction (I’ve broadened the topics I’ll read about, though), historical fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, mysteries, picture books, early readers, teen, and adult fiction. I like to read more than one book at a time, and I love books that are written from multiple perspectives.
I have a philosophy about reading: “I believe that reading is reading, so read what you want.” Read widely, read about people like you and people who are different from you, read to laugh and to cry, read to learn and to grow, read everything and anything (even the back of a cereal box), just read!
