Get money smart about retirement

Money Smart Week® was created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002 as a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. Today, thousands of organizations focus on providing free financial topics for people from all walks of life.

Here at the Library, we’ve been part of Money Smart Week since 2015– offering financial programs on topics that range from personal finance to money management and insurance to retirement planning.

Money Smart Week programs

This year, we’ll be offering two popular retirement programs (on the same day) by presenter Karen Chan, CFP.  They include:

  1. Is it the Right Time to Retire? Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m.-noon.
Instead of trying to figure out the specific amount of money you’ll need to retire, learn how to look at your overall financial picture and gather the right information before making a decision. Register.
  2. 10 Tips for Getting the Most from Your Retirement Money-Saturday, April 28, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Strategies on how to get the most from your IRA, 401(k), or other plans will be discussed along with tools that can help you manage income taxes, streamline distributions and help simplify your life. Register.

We will also be offering an Auto Finance Resource program Monday, April 23, 7 p.m.  If you’re shopping for a new car, this new online resource will help you compare interest rates from local banks and credit unions, calculate the cost of loans and navigate the car financing process. Register.

Please consider taking advantage of these free, educational programs to help you better prepare financially for the future.

Update 4/18: Auto Finance Resource Program has been canceled. Learn more about this new online resource here.
