Reading and I didn’t exactly start out on the right foot. As a 6-year-old just learning how to read, I really struggled. But I’ll never forget the day it just “clicked” for me, and books became my forever friends. Throw in a mom who was a lifelong book lover and let me loose in our local public library with zero restrictions, and my bond with libraries was set in stone. In addition to that epic “I learned how to read (!!!)” moment, I had one more in college when the “wait, I can combine my love of reading and libraries with a profession(??!!!)” moment came to light. Literacy, books, and libraries have all had a huge influence on my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Since I like to mix it up, I’m a huge fan of children’s audiobooks, Teen books in general, and any kind of mystery. I have a long-ish commute to work so audiobooks have been a lifesaver and a great way to expand my readers advisory for children. Teen books are fabulous (and I’m not just saying that because I’m the Teen Librarian!). The creativity, honesty, and openness of these books continue to surprise me everyday. I’ve also been told I’m a naturally inquisitive (i.e. nosy), ask way too many questions kind of gal, so mysteries and I have been tight for a long, long time. And if you want to know one bizarre reading habit I have, it would be that I read the ending of every book before starting it. Yeah, ask my coworkers how they feel about that…

Read what you want, when you want, where you want! It’ll make me happy, but more importantly you’ll be treating yourself to a lifelong guarantee of adventure, open-mindedness, and empathy that only a good book can provide!
