I’ve been reading my entire life. I don’t have any memories of ever not reading or looking at books. When I was a kid I looked at the newspaper every day, even if it was just to read the comics. I even read the catalogs that came in the mail. My mother sold encyclopedias and I would often take a random letter and just start reading through the volume about various topics. I always enjoyed soaking up knowledge and learning about my world.

Because of this, my favorite type of books are nonfiction, although I also enjoy some science fiction, literary fiction, and I’m a huge fan of graphic novels. But I enjoy nonfiction best of all. Even with graphic novels, I prefer ones that tell true stories or are memoirs, as opposed to superhero (men in tights) types of books.

I’ve also always had a love for music and movies. In college I was a college radio DJ and the Music Director of the station. I was also head of the film board for two years and picked out all of the movies we showed at my school. After graduating from college, I spent several years working in record stores around Chicago. I also played bass guitar in an “indie” rock band. I’ve never stopped listening to music and love listening to both old favorites as well as the most current releases. I also love music in a variety of genres, including rock, hip hop, reggae, and country. I’m always watching good movies as well and love a good drama, comedy, horror, sci-fi, or documentary.
