The 2020 Census has arrived, and your participation is extremely important. Census data directly affect how federal funds (out of a national total of $675 billion) are allocated to communities for the next 10 years. Allocation issues include the following much more:
- Schools and Libraries
- Roads and Highways
- Public Health
- Medicaid
- Public Transportation
- Neighborhood Improvements
- Housing Assistance
- SNAP and WIC
- Community Service Grants
Additionally, Census data is used to determine the number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, and Illinois is in danger of losing 1-2 seats.
Good news – it will be easier than ever to participate in the Census. There are three ways to submit your Census form:
- Online/computer or mobile app (first time ever for this option)
- Phone
- Paper
All households should receive an invitation in the mail between March 12-20 with instructions. Have questions? Check out the 2020 Census FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) prepared by our Staff. Also, if you need a computer to complete the form online, there are two dedicated laptops available for use in the Library. You can check one out at the downstairs info desk.
