If you feel so inclined, please email us at [email protected] with your own recommendation. We’d love to hear them!

Sam’s Picks:

ARTIST: Melt Yourself Down

ALBUM TITLE: Pray For Me I Don’t Fit In (2022)

I discovered this band about a couple of months ago and I have been obsessed with them ever since. Melt Yourself Down is a London-based band with elements of dance, jazz, funk, and West African musical styles. Its upbeat tempos and instrumentation are sure to put you in an energetic and dancy mood.

SIMILAR ARTISTS: Moon Hooch, Ibibio Sound Machine, Badbadnotgood

ARTIST: Unknown Mortal Orchestra

ALBUM TITLE: Ii (2013)

Unknown Mortal Orchestra has a lofi sound that is vaguely reminiscent of 70’s revival. From New Zealand, this is the band’s 2nd studio album and it holds notes of psychedelic rock mixed with indie/blues-rock.  This album is a good one to sit out on your porch with a glass of lemonade during sunset.

SONG TO CHECK OUT: One at a Time

SIMILAR ARTISTS: Tame Impala, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Foxygen

Mariel’s Picks

ARTIST: Jacob Collier

ALBUM TITLE: Djesse Vol. 3 (2020)

Jacob Collier is a polymath of inexplicable scope; known for his boundless energy, talent on multiple instruments, and complete openness toward all music. Volume 3 of his four-part Djesse series is simultaneously the most experimental and accessible album so far—it’s a joyous record, packed with sound and color.

SONG TO CHECK OUT: “Sleeping On My Dreams

SIMILAR ARTISTS: Louis Cole, Vulfpeck, Snarky Puppy

ARTIST: Nick Drake

ALBUM TITLE: Pink Moon (1972)

The elusive folk singer was little known in life, and he released only three albums before his death by overdose in 1974—but posthumously, he became a legend. Pink Moon was his final and best album. It is full of despair and hope, subtle beauty, and a strange timelessness. It will forever be a record to revisit and will never be unsurprising.

SONG TO CHECK OUT: “Things Behind the Sun”

SIMILAR ARTISTS: Cat Stevens, Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley
