One of my favorite things about fall is the start of football season. There is something about a cool, crisp, sunny Sunday afternoon at a football game that I just love. And when it gets cold, there is nothing better than curling up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and watching the Sunday game. But I will admit something to you: I don’t get football. Of course I know the basics. The quarterback throws the ball, the team gets four chances to gain 10 yards, a touchdown is six points. But beyond that, I really have no idea what is going on most of the time. It seems like there is always a penalty for something, but I have no idea what they mean. Pass interference, offsides, safety, touchback. It’s all Greek to me. And aside from the quarterback and the kicker, I have no idea what all the other positions are either. Wide receiver, fullback, tight end, cornerback. What are these? And what’s the difference between a fumble and an incompletion? I’m not sure.
I know I’m not the only one who is confused by all the rules and lingo, so I thought a little help was in order. Coach Phil Palecek will be here at the library on Saturday, September 20th at 3pm for our Football 101 Training Camp. Coach Palecek was a high school football coach for 22 years, coaching both offense and defense. We’re going to learn everything we need to know to follow the game and impress our friends with all of our football knowledge!
And to continue our celebration of football season, on Sunday, September 21st, we’re tailgating at the library! Jeff Shapiro, owner of Real Urban Barbecue will be here to teach us how to throw a great tailgating party. Jeff put on a great barbecue program here last year, so we are really excited to have him back!
We have some fun giveaways for each program. Sign up for both in advance online or with Adult Services.
