By now, most people are aware that “Robert Galbraith” is J.K. Rowling, but this book does not need a famous name attached to it in order to prove its worth: it does that all on its own!
The Cuckoo’s Calling is the first in a series of detective novels that follow Cormoran Strike, a private detective who lost part of his leg during his military service in Afghanistan with the British army, and his new assistant Robin as they solve crimes in the greater London area. In this first iteration, a legendary supermodel has committed suicide — or has she? Her brother is not convinced, and he hires Strike to solve the mystery of who killed her.
Full of well-developed characters and Agatha Christie-esque twists, The Cuckoo’s Calling is a mystery-lover’s dream come true — I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting! And if you like it as much as I did, you can check out the second novel in the series, The Silkworm, which is just as good as the first one!
This book is available right now through the Deerfield Public Library – you can put it on hold through our online catalog. If you find that you have to wait, check out “You Might Also Like …” at the bottom of the record for more books to read!
