You know a book is going to be good when it starts with the end of the world. In this amazing first installment of a new fantasy series from N.K. Jemisin, the world is occasionally wracked by horrific natural disasters called ‘Seasons’, during which humanity must struggle to survive against all odds. The Fifth Season follows the path of one woman through different defining periods of her life up to the beginning of the most current Season.
It is hard for me to describe how much I enjoyed this book. Jemisin is a wonderful writer, and this book gripped me from the very beginning and pulled me along through all the crises and chaos until the end, at which point I was left shaking and frantically Googling when the next installment in the series comes out! If you’re a fan of high fantasy (and especially Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series, which is another one I enjoy immensely) and you enjoy a diverse setting with a side dish of incredible world-building, you’ll love reading this book.
You can put The Fifth Season on hold in the catalog right now. While you wait, check out the “You Might Also Like These …” section at the bottom of the book’s catalog page.
