Our Fall crochet program, Project Granny Square, was so popular that we decided to film the lessons and include them on our YouTube channel, as well as here on our blog. Thanks to Lucie Sinkler, owner of CloseKnit Yarn Store in Evanston, IL, for teaching the Project Granny Square classes at the Library, as well as being featured in our video lessons.
To create a basic granny square, you do need to know a few basic crochet stitches. If you already know the basics, GREAT! Simply scroll down past this first video and play the second video for the granny square lesson. If you are a beginner and don’t know the basic stitches, here’s a great tutorial video to get you started:
Granny squares today are not what they used to be. With new designs and gorgeous yarns, their look is both fresh and new. To create a basic granny square, you will need a size G or H crochet hook and a ball of worsted weight yarn (more than one color, if possible, to use different colors in your squares). Once you’ve mastered the granny square, following Lucie’s instruction below, keep practicing and make several squares. In next week’s lesson, we will learn how to connect your granny squares.
