The Deerfield Public Library is the place to be if you’re a homeschooling family! Of course we offer great resources for supplementing your child’s education. Think books, music, movies, online resources, friendly librarians, and the newest addition to our magazine collection: Practical Homeschooling. I am also excited about the fantastic year of specially designed activities we have planned. Programs in the areas of science, problem-solving, art, history and geography offer your child a chance to interact with other homeschooled children, have fun, and learn something new in a supportive setting.
Upcoming programs include:
- September 19: Building Bridges — ages 8 and up — We’ll explore the science of bridges through hands-on building and experimentation. Teams will build bridges and see how much weight each can sustain. Register now!
- October 17: Run and Roll — ages 5 and up — Create marble runs and marble roller coasters as we explore the science of movement. Learn about kinetic energy and velocity all while having fun! Register now!
- November 21: Tall Towers — ages 5 to 8 — We will read about those amazing buildings called skyscrapers and then create our own versions together. How tall will your tower climb? Register now!
All programs are from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., and we encourage registration in advance.
I’m looking forward to this year’s programming, and I can’t wait to continue the partnership between the Library and our homeschooled families. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me at khenry@deerfieldlibrary.org.
