If you are someone who tends to get bored easily with predictable, single-genre music, Puerto Rican/Cuban American singer Xenia Rubinos will surely spice up your listening experience. ARTIST: Laura Jane Grace
ALBUM: Stay Alive (2020)
Frontwoman to the folk-punk band, Against Me!, Laura Jane Grace is a transgender artist who has branched off from her band to create this comparatively mellow, folk solo album. Laura does a fantastic job creating songs with hard-hitting lyrics sung with raw, emotional quality. If you’d like to learn more about the story of Laura’s transition, you can check out her book entitled Tranny: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout, which is available for check out in our collection.

ARTIST: Tash Sultana
ALBUM: Notion-EP (2016)
Melbourne, Australia artist, Tash Sultana (pronouns them/they/their), is a musical force to be reckoned with, as they know how to play 20 instruments. However, Tash’s main instrument of choice is their guitar, and they play it as if the instrument is an extension of their own body. The moment I was introduced to Tash, I immediately was hooked by their instrumental work and stunning voice. Tash has won multiple awards, including the J Award (an Australian Music Award) for Unearthed Artist of the Year. Check out Tash Sultana to see what the buzz is all about!
