May Teen Grab & Go Craft: No-Sew Pastry Pillows

DIY pastry pillow 2 crop 1Happy May, friends! I can’t believe how quickly this school year has flown by. This time of the year always has me nostalgic for being in school (don’t ask me when I graduated!) So, when I was thinking about what would be a fun Grab & Go for May, the answer came to me when I remembered my favorite breakfast before school. This month’s Grab and Go kit for Teens is No-Sew Pastry Pillows!

As you can see, these are loved by people and pets equally! For those of you who may want to continue crafting, I will be including a list of craft books. Feel free to reach out to the Youth and Teen Librarians at youthservices@deerfieldlibrary.org for more recommendations!

Grab & Go kits will be available beginning May 3 while supplies last. Check back throughout the week as we refill our green Creation Station by the library entrance. These craft kits have a sticker indicating that it is a Teen craft.

DIY pastry pillow crop 1Supplies provided:

1 tan felt sheet, 1 colorful felt sheet, pillow stuffing

Supplies needed:

Glue (craft and hot glue are the best options), scissors, and decorating supplies

  1. Fold the tan felt sheet in half hamburger style and cut along the folded edge. This will be the main part of the pillow
  2. Glue three of the edges together and let dry. You want to only glue the three edges so that there is an opening to insert the stuffing. I let my craft glue dry about an hour before proceeding
  3. Carefully insert the stuffing into the open edge and glue the edge shut. Due to the stuffing, you might need to weigh the edge down with a book or something heavy until it dries
  4. Cut out and decorate your colorful felt sheet! I tried to cut mine out to look like icing, but you can do whatever you’d like. After you’ve cut out and decorated, glue the “icing” to the top of the pillow and let dry. You’re done!
