April’s Grab and Go craft kit celebrates April’s rainy weather AND the blooms that we look forward to next month. Your child can create an umbrella that flips to become a flower growing out of the ground! Kits are available outside at our green Creation Station or in Youth Services, while supplies last.
Materials included:
- ½ paper plate (this will be the umbrella canopy and the ground)
- 1 flower
- 1 umbrella handle/stem
- 1 brad
Needed from home:
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Stapler
- Hole punch (or you can use the brad itself to poke a hole)
Instructions:
- Use 1 side of the ½ paper plate to create an umbrella canopy. Color it however you like!
- The other side of the ½ paper plate will be the ground. Will your ground be muddy or grassy or a combination of both? Will it be a magical ground that’s purple?!? Color this side however you want your ground to look.
- Cut out the umbrella handle. Then color the back of the umbrella handle to look like a flower stem.
- Cut out the flower and then color it however you like!
- To assemble the craft, either use a hole punch or the brad itself to make a hole in the middle of the flower and at the curved end of the umbrella handle/stem. Attach the two pieces, making sure that the colorful side of the flower is showing on the stem side of the handle.
- Staple the opposite end of the handle/stem to the paper plate.
- Congratulations! You’ve got a flippable umbrella/flower!
