Edwin says I deserve to be loved with precision.
by Séamus Isaac Fey
Edwin says I deserve to be loved with precision. I didn’t understand
what precision meant until I made Nick a smoothie & counted his macros
in tablespoons. He says that’s not precise— it’s only accurate. The difference,
he says, is that one tablespoon varies in weight depending on the substance,
though it is, accurately, one tablespoon. If you measure in grams, 5 grams
is always 5 grams. That’s the difference between accurate and precise,
& if you want to be consistent, you want a measurement that doesn’t vary.
I imagine when I’m loved with precision, I’ll know the weight of it.

Queer Poem a Day
Queer Poem-a-Day is directed by poet and professor Lisa Hiton and Dylan Zavagno, Adult Services Coordinator at the Deerfield Public Library. Music for this fourth year of our series is from the second movement of the “Geistinger Sonata,” Piano Sonata No. 2 in C Sharp Minor by Ethel Smyth, performed by pianist Daniel Baer. Queer Poem-a-Day is supported by generous donations from the Friends of the Deerfield Public Library and the Deerfield Fine Arts Commission.
