On this episode of the Deerfield Public Library Podcast, we’re featuring an amazing conversation with Chef Gale Gand. You may know her as the James Beard Award-winning pastry chef behind the Chicago restaurant TRU, as a cookbook author, a Food Network personality, or as your neighbor here in Deerfield! We talk about her long and fascinating career with a focus on her local connections, family, and her inspirations for a long and varied career. Finally, Gale gives us some excellent cooking and baking tips, and—I still can’t believe I did this—we go toe-to-toe on who has the better technique for grilled cheese.
Our conversation went somewhat longer than our usual interview, so our only other segment on this episode is our Library news update. We kept it simple: Summer Reading has started! And, since we’re skipping our Staff Pick this month, we wanted to link to one of Gale’s favorite books, The Whip by Karen Kondazian.
One more thing–be sure to listen to the very end of the episode for a little surprise “dessert” from Chef Gand.
We hope you enjoy our sixth episode with Gale Gand! Each month we’ll be releasing an episode featuring a conversation with a dynamic Deerfield leader. Learn more about the podcast on our podcast page.
