Dark Side Of The Moon Music Discussion

Please join us for our Summer Music Discussion on Saturday, July 30 at 1 p.m. as we listen to and talk about one of the greatest albums of all time, Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”. When it was released in 1973 it became an instant classic and stayed on the billboard charts for an unprecedented 741 straight weeks. We’ll talk about what made the album so popular and the stories behind the songs. Please register in advance.

In 1972, Pink Floyd was a band in limbo. Their charismatic lead singer, Syd Barrett, was long gone but they were still playing his songs in concert. They were turning into a psychedelic oldies act and they were desperate for new material. Roger Waters came up with the idea of a concept album that would explore issues of madness, the pressures of life, and alienation in the modern world. The album was written and played in live shows for about a year before it was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. It ended up being one of the best-selling albums of all time and is still considered a masterpiece.
