Blues musician Derrick Procell on the DPL Podcast

On this month’s episode of the Deerfield Public Library Podcast, we talk to blues musician and longtime Deerfield resident Derrick Procell. Over the last 40-plus years, Procell has made a name for himself in the music and ad industry for his energy, talent, and strong vocals.

Originally hailing from Milwaukee, Procell grew up with a strong affinity toward music and a knack for picking up instruments with ease. He started playing the piano at age 4 and, as he likes to say, “The rest is history.” Today, Procell is the frontman of the Chicago soul and blues band Derrick Procell and the Redeemers.

Listen to find out how Procell got his start as a musician at 16 and how he later found success as a voiceover actor. We also discuss the many music projects throughout his career, the one time he earned kudos from his hero Charlie McCoy, and his collaboration with Grammy-winning songwriter Terry Abrahamson.

Check out Procell’s latest album and other music on his website. To see what Procell and his band are up to, visit their facebook page or catch their free concert at the Deerfield Summer Sampler Concert Series on Sunday, July 7, from 5-6:30 p.m, at Mitchell Park, 951 Wilmot Road.

We hope you enjoyed our 29th episode. Each month we release an episode featuring a conversation with a notable guest, including community leaders, authors, artists, and others with interesting Deerfield or Chicagoland connections. Learn more on our podcast page.
