It’s easy being green in Deerfield and Lake County thanks to the expansive resources available from SWALCO (aka the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County).  We’re excited to partner with our friends at SWALCO to present Green Day @ the Library on Saturday, April 9.  The day’s events will provide you with loads of inspiration, and a PVC-free Deerfield Library tote bag (while supplies last).

In our land of plenty, there is also plenty of waste. Did you know that 85% of all clothing and other textiles (including shoes) end up in landfills in the U.S.?  You can help turn the tide by recycling old shoes at the Library in April:

Recycle Your Shoes!

April 9-26

  • Shoes will either be re-used or recycled
  • Keep pairs together: Tie laces, or secure with a large rubber band
  • Bring in (almost) any type of footwear (unless moldy or in pieces, no bottoms, etc.)
  • Sorry, but we cannot accept winter boots, ice skates, or rollerblades.

Also, please join us for one of our special Green Day programs:
