While I certainly enjoy a good book, gaming is where my true passion lies. My father introduced me to gaming at a very young age. When I was eight-years-old we built our first computer together. I remember playing games with him every weekend, sometimes very late into the night. Together we would slay dragons as a young squire aspiring to become a knight or fight space aliens as a bumbling janitor that accidentally got into sticky situations.
I find joy in many different types of games be they board, video, or card games, and I enjoy many different genres. I do find that my favorites tend to be role-playing and strategy games. In a role-playing game I can get lost in another world, like a book, but I have the agency to interact and shape my world in a way that is unique to games. In a strategy game, I can test my wits against a computer or, better yet, another person. I can learn my strengths and weaknesses, improve my understanding, and, most importantly, have fun.
There is a vast world of media and entertainment out there. Find what excites you and what you are passionate about, whether it’s a book, a movie, a song, or a game. There is no right answer to finding enjoyment. Explore as much as you can.
