Join the Community of Makers with Strawbees Discovery Kits

Did you hear? Our newest Discovery Kit is here – Strawbees!

Strawbees 1 1Strawbees? What’s that!

Strawbees are a building tool used to connect straws to make 3D sculptures! They are yellow, plastic pieces that are comprised of 1, 2, 3, or 5 different “arms” to conjoin straws together. With Strawbees, you can build structures, toys, or anything else you can dream of!

What comes in the Kit?

In the Strawbees Discovery Kit, you will receive:

  • 100 Strawbees
  • 100 Straws
  • The Strawbees “Get Started” Booklet
  • The book Building Structures and Towers by Tammy Enz
  • A shoe cutout pattern, to help with a specific Strawbees project (which can be found in the “Get Started” booklet), and
  • A list of everything that comes in the Discovery Kit, so it’s convenient for you to keep track of and return all of the pieces

Can I keep the creations I make?

Please make sure to return all Strawbees pieces with the Discovery Kit. However, if you want to show off your work at the Library please return your creations intact, and we will display them. That way, everyone can enjoy this kit!

Interested in checking out a Strawbees Kit?

Come down to the Youth Services Department to check one out, today! We have four Strawbees Kits available for check out. Just like our Makey Makey Discovery Kits, our Strawbees Kits are available for one-week checkout, and you can check out one Discovery Kit per library card. Join the community of makers and use the hashtag #DPLDiscoveryKit to post your creations to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! As always, be sure to check out the Library newsletter or our event calendar for information about upcoming maker programs!
