Woven Rainbow Bracelet

Happy Pride Month! Let’s make a rainbow bracelet (or you could use it as a bookmark!). You can also use this technique with any color yarn instead.

Each kit includes:

  • 3 straws
  • 3 short strings of yarn (yours will be white)
  • One long string of rainbow yarn

You will need:

  • Scissors
  • Tape

Instructions:

  1. String one white short yarn through a straw. Repeat with all 3.

  2. Tie all 3 yarns together in a loop knot, leaving a long tail, but without pulling the yarn out of the straws.

  3. Take the long rainbow yarn and tie it around the right most string.

  4. Tape the yarn to the table to keep it in place.

  5. Start weaving. For the first row, go under the right straw, over the middle straw and then under the left straw.

  6. Bring the yarn back around, and for the next row go over the left straw, under the middle straw, and over the right straw.

  7. Carefully push the rows up to the top of the straws. Holding the straws and the bottoms of the white yarn will help them stay in place when you do this.

  8. Repeat steps 5-7. Once you have enough rows to cover it with another piece of tape, that will help keep everything in place.

  9. Keep going until it seems like it’s long enough to fit around your wrist, and then tie the rainbow yarn around the straw you finish on.

  10. Carefully and slowly pull the straws out. Hold the top knot and the first few rows to slide the straws out row by row.

  11. Tie another loop knot at the other end.

  12. Cut the excess string, while still giving yourself a long enough tail to tie to the other side. Put it on your wrist or give it to a friend!
