Kanopy Kids is a subdivision of Kanopy, the Library’s on-demand streaming video platform that can be found right here on our website. All you need is your library card. Click “Go to Kanopy Kids” at the top of the Kanopy home page and the door will open to all sorts of possibilities for your child.
You can find storytimes, movies, and learning materials for science, math, and history at Kanopy Kids. There are some wonderful historical biographies, such as Helen’s Big World: The Life of Helen Keller or Nelson Mandela by Kadir Nelson. Not in the mood for a biography? Let’s do a storytime; your choices are numerous.
Does your child have a favorite character such as Franklin, Curious George, Arthur, Elmo, or Big Bird? They can be found on Kanopy Kids in all different types of stories. Watch Knuffle Bunny or Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, two of my favorites. You can also find Creepy Carrots, a kid favorite, along with The Pigeon books by Mo Willems on Kanopy Kids.
Not all screen time is bad! It can be educational and help in social situations like the one we are experiencing these days. We just need to be aware of the types of technology that are out there and use them to our advantage. When all this ends, and it will, you can go back to enforcing screen time limits.
