Paper Plate Maze Stem Challenge

Happy March!  Spring has finally arrived! This month’s activity uses your creativity to make a paper plate maze. Your maze can be created for one marble or two marbles for a more difficult challenge.

Each kit contains:

  • 1 paper plate
  • 6 straws
  • 2 marbles

You will need:

  • Scissors
  • Glue
  1.  Plan your design.  Think about what you want your maze to look like. Will your maze be for one marble or two marbles?  You might consider drawing out your design on a piece of paper before you begin.
  2. Cut your straws in lengths to create your design.  Make sure the straw lengths fit on the paper plate.
  3. Glue the straws onto the plate making sure they are far enough apart to fit a marble inside. Let the glue dry completely.
  4. Test it out.  Have fun!

Woven Bookmark Instructions:

  1. Thread the yarn through the needle and make a double knot at the far end of the piece of yarn.
  2. Beginning at one of the narrow ends of the bookmark, weave in and out of the holes until you reach the other end.
  3. Thread three or four beads on the piece of yarn.  After threading on the last bead, take the yarn and needle and thread them a second time through the last bead in the same direction as the first time; this will help keep the beads from falling off.
  4. Tie a double knot in the yarn and trim off any excess.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for the other 11 rows.
