Mariel and I are back with four more album recommendations this month. For each musical recommendation, we will include a link to the album and a sample song from that album. We hope you enjoy and discover some new artists!
If you feel so inclined, please email us at reference@deerfieldlibrary.org with your own recommendation. We’d love to hear them!
Sam’s Picks:
ARTIST: Son Lux
ALBUM TITLE: Lanterns (2013)
The edgy, yet electronic ambiance of this album is one of the main elements that sticks out. The melodies are catchy, yet the electronic instrumentation is atmospheric and surreal. Son Lux is partially known for movie soundtracks, like the latest movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.
SONG TO CHECK OUT: Easy
SIMILAR ARTISTS: Thom Yorke, Dan Deacon, Fever Ray
ARTIST: PUP
ALBUM TITLE: The Unraveling of PUPtheband (2022)
Armed with incredibly catchy riffs and a pop/punk style, PUP is back with their 4th studio album. Stemming from Toronto, the band is known to mix their nihilistic lyrics with energetic performances.
SONG TO CHECK OUT: Totally Fine
SIMILAR ARTISTS: Bomb the Music Industry, Spanish Love Songs, Joyce Manor
Mariel’s Picks:
ARTIST: Kendrick Lamar
ALBUM TITLE: To Pimp A Butterfly
Now that we’ve finally gotten news of Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar’s long-awaited fifth album, it’s time to celebrate with his 2015 masterpiece of hip hop, jazz, and funk.
SONG TO CHECK OUT: These Walls
SIMILAR ARTISTS: Pusha T, ScHoolboy Q, Dr. Dre
ARTIST: Remi Wolf
ALBUM TITLE: Juno
Remi Wolf’s music is a little like leaving the dentist as an 8-year-old and being told that you can pick out a prize from the treasure chest, where you find the most brightly colored and beautiful plastic toys you’ve ever seen. You’ll know what I mean when you listen.
SONG TO CHECK OUT: Grumpy Old Man
SIMILAR ARTISTS: Tune-Yards, Tank and The Bangas, Hiatus Kaiyote
Community Recommendations:
- Sophia recommends: Omnium Gatherum by King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
