The Deerfield Fine Arts Commission will host a community open house on Wednesday, September 26, 6-8 p.m. at the Library to showcase the 25 pieces selected for the fifth year of the Deerfield Public Art Program. The artists will participate in a brief discussion of their contributions. Light refreshments will be served.
Multiple media are featured in this year’s selections. Artists from Deerfield include Shayna Elekman, Sara Kenward, Avra Mouzakis, Wayne Rhodes, Linda Trytek, Penny Weinberg, and Susan Willis. Other Illinois artists include Andrea Jablonski/Laura Miracle, ISz, Alix Anne Shaw, Frank Vega of Chicago, Matthew Csernansky of Chicago, Victor Nelson and Jim Parks of Evanston, Elisa Boughner of Glenview, Judith Joseph and Renata Maliszewski of Northbrook, and Susan Harrold of Oak Park. Additional featured artists are Noel Ash and Jamie Weinfurter, both of Wisconsin.
The specific artwork selected for display were chosen from submissions by a very talented pool of artists and were reviewed via jury process. The Fine Arts Commission is responsible for reviewing artwork submissions and making a final recommendation. The artists have agreed to loan their works of art for public display for up to one year.
Sculptures will be on display at two outdoor locations on Waukegan Road, one at Hazel and the other at the northeast corner of the Deerfield Road intersection. The rest of the art will be on display at the Village Hall, the Library, the Jewett Park Community Center, the Patty Turner Center, the Public Works building, and the Sachs Recreation Center.
