Day 16: The Window by Jay Besemer

Queer Poem-a-Day is a program from the Adult Services Department at the Library and may include adult language.

The Window

by Jay Besemer

run your fingers through my
door. a fine crust of light
accumulates on the floor
where the day collects beneath
your feet. words were given
in this room & you feel them
still, a sticky mesh upon your
skin. walk to the window in
the far wall, rest your palms
on the sill, rest your weight on
your palms. breathe in the scent
of unseen books, the imaginary
conjoined building that shares
this window, just beyond
the glass.

2021 Queer Poem a Day

Queer Poem-a-Day is directed by poet and teacher Lisa Hiton and Dylan Zavagno, Adult Services Coordinator at the Deerfield Public Library. Music for this second year of our series is the first movement, Schéhérazade, from Masques, Op. 34, by Karol Szymanowski, performed by pianist Daniel Baer. Queer Poem-a-Day is supported by generous donations from the Friends of the Deerfield Public Library and the Deerfield Fine Arts Commission.
