Ready, Set, Vote!

Join us for Ready, Set, Vote on Wednesday, October 17, 7-8:30 p.m. to learn how to be a more informed voter!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever gone to the voting booth and looked at all the candidates and thought “I don’t know who any of these people are!” OK, that’s everyone. Including me. Most of us think of voting as casting our ballot for the President, but there are many more positions on our ballot that we have to consider. It can be difficult if you don’t know anything about the candidates. Many people will just choose the incumbent, or leave those positions blank. And many people, especially in a midterm election like the one that is approaching next month, will not vote at all. Only about 40% of the eligible population will vote in midterm elections. This could be because some voters simply don’t know the candidates and how to choose who to vote for. That’s where we can help!

The Library will be hosting the League of Women Voters-Deerfield Area on October 17 for a program on voting. We’ll talk about different ways to vote (early voting, voting by mail), look at sample ballots, and explore tools for learning about candidates’ positions on issues. Retired Lake County Judge Wallace Dunn will also explain why we vote for some judges and how to get information about these candidates. If you are a first -time voter, or just want to be better informed before you go to the voting booth, join us at the library on October 17 at 7 p.m.
