Deerfield Public Library Strategic Plan
FY 2017 – FY 2019

A note from Library Director Amy Falasz-Peterson:

I am extremely proud of the work we have done to implement the first year of our Strategic Plan.

Our staff is a strong and dedicated group of professionals who work hard every day to make sure that we are doing our best to serve our community. I am proud of our partnership with various local organizations, including DPS109, the Park District, the Village, and the Friends of the Library. I have encouraged the staff to grow and develop. They’ve taken some risks, like the podcast and virtual reality tours, which are incredibly popular. (Over 1,700 listens since its inception in January!)

Some of the highlights include:

  • Reconfigured space in Youth Services for elementary school kids & Baby Garden
  • Researched potential makerspace equipment and location; developing a proposal for moving forward with the building of a collaborative makerspace
  • Installed bollards near front door to prevent people from driving up on the sidewalk
  • Begun reviewing potential new catalogs
  • Investigating new technology to make access to materials easier for our patrons (for example, preloading Kindles with best selling titles)
  • Added our very popular podcast and Virtual Art and Cemetery tours
  • Added a new self-check on the lower level
  • Added more copies of popular items in both electronic and print
  • Increased programming offerings across the board
  • New initiatives with community partners (Teacher cards; PLACE group; Sachs Center; Deerfield Area Historical Society)
  • Enhanced current collections
    • STEM kits
    • Wifi Hotspots
    • Board games

As a result of the community surveys and analysis, the Library will continue to focus on the following areas for 2017-2019:

  • Quick, easy access to services and materials
  • Educational and entertainment materials and programs for all ages
  • Comfortable, adaptable interior spaces
  • Technology enhancements and improvements

We will continue to roll out new services for our community. We continue to increase the number of copies we have of high-demand materials, and continue to enhance our programming options.
