This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is Read For The Win. With that in mind, we’ll be showing three of the greatest sports films ever made for our Summer Movie Discussion series. I will give a brief talk before each movie with some fun facts and interesting stories about the film. Please feel free to stay after to talk about it a bit more if you would like. I’m happy to stay around and chat about each movie.
We chose three films about three different sports. We’ll start in June with perhaps the greatest film about hockey ever made. Paul Newman stars in Slapshot, the story of a down and out minor league hockey team who find new life when they add the infamous Hanson brothers to the team. Then in July, we will show one of the most inspirational sports films of all time, and perhaps the greatest film ever made about basketball, Hoosiers. This film also includes fantastic acting performances from Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper. Finally, in August we’ll show a fan favorite about baseball, the great Field of Dreams, starring Kevin Costner. Please join us and help celebrate our Summer Reading Program by Watching for the Win!
