Winter is fast approaching, cozy up with a good book and light up a candle you made yourself! Teens can pick up a winter candle-making kit from the teen space or from the green creation station outside the library.
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 oz. tin w/wick placed
- 1 bag of of soy wax chips
- 1 vial peppermint or vanilla oil
- 2 paper cups
OTHER ITEMS YOU’LL NEED:
- microwave
- something to stir with
- scissors (for trimming wick)
- oven mitt
INSTRUCTIONS
- pour wax chips into a doubled-up paper cup
- microwave for 20 seconds at a time, until the wax begins to soften
- stir wax with a coffee stirrer or plastic spoon
- continue microwaving in 20-second increments, stirring in between, until the wax is uniformly liquid
- keeping wick steady, pour the wax into candle tin, up to the beveled line near the top
- pour in the essential oil and mix
- let sit for 24 hours and then trim wick to about 1/4″
