Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the ukulele, but wanted to try it before you buy it? Now at Deerfield Public Library, you can! Our newest Discovery Kits are ready for checkout: ukuleles!
We kicked off our newest Discovery Kits with a special Ukulele Sing-a-long program in Youth Services last week, and since then, our ukuleles been flying off the shelves.
About the ukuleles
We currently have two ukuleles available for checkout. These kits come with the ukulele, a carrying case, a tuner, two picks, a strap (so you can wear it while you play it), and a booklet titled Ukulele Chord Dictionary by Morton Manus.
For more resources on how to play the ukulele, check out our catalog. We have a non-fiction title in our youth collection, My First Ukulele: Learn to Play Right Away! which will help teach you or your youngest ones some introductory chords and songs, right away! Make sure to also check out our e-book resources through Hoopla, including The Art of Ukulele: An Essential Handbook for Players and Performers by Ralph Shaw.
So, if you want to be the next Israel Kamakawiwoʻole (his most popular song being the famous medley of “Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World”) or if you just feel like playing a few simple tunes, check out this Discovery Kit — and remember, you can always put one on hold if they’re both checked out!
