Winter Movie Discussions *NEW TIME*

New 1pm starting time for Thursday Movie Discussions

Join fellow movie fans and Multimedia Librarian, Ted Gray, to discuss some of the most iconic movies ever made.  The Thursday Movie Discussions are back, and at a new time.  The program will be one Thursday a month, and will start at 1pm.

The discussions start with a brief presentation on the movie’s background, as well as some fun trivia and little known facts to think about while watching the film.  After the movie, chat with Ted and the group about your own impressions.

This winter, the theme will be “Greatest Gangsters”.  The group will watch and discuss three of the most infamous gangster movies of all time.

  • Thursday December 11th @ 1pm. The Godfather, rated R, 175 minutes.
Many film critics consider “The Godfather” to be one of the greatest movies ever made in the history of film. It was the winner of three academy awards including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and the Best Actor award for Marlon Brando’s brilliant performance as Don Corleon.
  • Thursday January 15th @ 1pm. “Scarface”, rated R, 170 minutes.
When “Scarface” was released it was criticized for its strong language and violence. Some critics called it a masterpiece and some called it B movie trash. As the years have gone by it is now considered a classic of the gangster genre. Al Pacino, who was also in the Godfather, gives the performance of his career as the Cuban gangster and drug lord, Tony Montana.
  • Thursday February 12th @1pm. “Goodfellas”, rated R, 146 minutes.
Martin Scorsese has become a master of the gangster genre and “Goodfellas” is arguably his greatest film. It stars Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci in perhaps his finest performance. Pesci received the academy award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. This gripping story is based on the true story of eventual mob informant Henry Hill. Many critics now consider this film to be an equal to the Godfather.

We hope you can join us at our new starting time of 1pm for great movies and great conversation.

Don’t forget Tuesday New Movie Nights! Every other Tuesday we pick out one of the hottest new DVD releases for the week and have a showing at the Library. The Tuesday New Movie Nights begin at 6:30pm. Please check our web site for updated movie listings.
