We all know a lot has changed in these last few months. Familiarity with things like e-learning, washing off groceries, and wearing face coverings has increased, while things such as in-person playdates or visits to the Library are off-limits for now. Thankfully, many things haven’t changed, such as the specialness of reading a book out loud to your child. Our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is also still going strong and still celebrates the importance of reading out loud, even if the books you read together are on a screen.
If you’re already registered for 1KBK (1,000 Books Before Kindergarten), and you want to log the books you’re reading out loud to your child, just email me at khenry@deerfieldlibrary.org. I can send you the log sheets if you have a home printer. If you don’t, no worries — just let me know you’ve read another 100 books, and I’ll update our information. When the library reopens, we’ll be sure you get the stickers to celebrate each 100 milestone and any applicable prizes (for reading 500 books and finishing with 1,000 books). If you haven’t yet registered your child for our program, please feel free to send me an email, and I’ll give you all the information! Sign-up prizes are also awarded and can be distributed when the Library reopens.
If you’re looking for good picture book recommendations that you can access via Libby or Hoopla, we’ve got you covered!
